A couple of fights broke out between those protesting and counterprotesters around 11 am and police declared it an unlawful assembly, authorities told KCRA 3. Authorities said someone lit a nearby shrub on fire. Police confirmed it was connected to a “Straight Pride Rally.” These protests have occurred across the country over the years with organizers coming out against LGBTQ pride events. However, many organizers of such rallies across the country have been linked to alt-right and white supremacist groups. It’s unclear if the organizers of this rally are linked to those organizations.
