Stockton Heath Lawn Tennis Club open new courts and floodlights
STOCKTON Heath Lawn Tennis Club members have been celebrating its progress over the summer.
The club marked completion of its two new artificial grass courts and floodlighting with a special celebration event.
As well as the official opening, the afternoon showcased the club’s facilities and was part of the LTA’s Big Tennis Weekend initiative, aimed at getting more people playing tennis.
Two British ATP players – Dan Cox and Sean Hodkin – came along for the afternoon and put on exhibition games and led training squads.
This is the largest commitment the club have made to date and will be instrumental in allowing further development in future years.
A serve speed gun challenge took place on court seven, with the top speed recorded being 101mph by Kit Stockton.
The 13-16 age winner was Lucy Maskery (69mph), while the 16+ winner was Tom Bracegirdle (76mph) and the senior women’s winner was Cheska Hales (77mph).
