How these Sacramento events are adjusting to incoming heat wave

With intense heat expected in the Northern California region this weekend, event organizers are adjusting their festivities to ensure attendees can enjoy themselves safely.”Due to the excessive heat through the holiday weekend, Sacramento County Division of Public Health and Office of Emergency Services is recommending that considerations be made to postpone or cancel outdoor events scheduled between Noon-8:00 pm Saturday – Tuesday,” said Janna Haynes, Public Information Officer for Sacramento County, in a written statement. Despite the order, many events are still scheduled to go on as planned over the Labor Day weekend.Below are some of the events still slated to happen.CHALK IT UPLocation: Fremont ParkDate: Sept. 3-5, 10 am-6 pmAdmission: Free“You’ll see art everywhere,” said John Nelson, of Chalk it Up, taking place in midtown’s Fremont Park. “People can come out anytime to see the art.”The three-day festival raises money for youth art education by providing grants to art educators. The festival is free to the public and runs from 10 am -6 pm Artists volunteer their time to chalk art onto the sidewalk squares to be enjoyed by festivalgoers walking the perimeter of the park. Nelson encouraged people to come by whenever they felt most comfortable but said extra accommodations are being made for the heat. “There’s no doubt that the heat will prevent some people from coming,” Nelson said. He said the Sacramento Reserve Medical Corps will be on-hand to provide aid to anyone experiencing problems and that cooling tents will be put up and that unlimited water will be available. She said ticket costs were lowered to help ease the financial burden on families and that COVID-19 information and vaccines would also be available as the organization works to continue to combat misinformation about the virus. Sykes said, of the heat, that she was encouraged by how much shade there is at the park but that misting machines and water would also be available.” We invite our whole community. CHALK IT UP

Location: Fremont Park

Date: Sept. 3-5, 10 am-6 pm

Admission: Free

The Greater Sacramento NAACP is hosting an R&B festival at Southside Park on Saturday, Sept 3.

“It’s going to be a great time. Everybody come out and join us,” said Velma Sykes, chair of the event.
