Colorado State football QB Clay Millen injured vs. Sacramento State

The young Colorado State football quarterback room is being tested.

Starter Clay Millen left Saturday’s game vs. Sacramento State in the second quarter, not long after the redshirt freshman took his 24th sack of the season.

True freshman Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi entered at Millen’s place. He took over the no. 2 spot on the depth chart last week and entered the game late against Washington State but didn’t throw a pass.

He was incomplete on his first two passes before leading a touchdown drive. On the TD drive, he completed his first career pass. Then on a 4th and 3 from CSU’s own 44 he hit a quick strike under pressure to Ty McCullouch.

The very next play, Fowler-Nicolosi hit on a deep ball for a 52-yard touchdown to Tory Horton.

Fowler-Nicolosi was 4-of-6 for 90 yards and a TD in the first half. He finished the game 6-15 for 116 yards and a TD as the Rams lost 41-10.

Fowler-Nicolosi is a 6-foot-1, 185-pound true freshman out of Aledo High School in Texas. He was rated a three-star recruit by 247Sports and chose the Rams over Arizona, Nevada, Middle Tennessee and others.

Millen did not return to the game. Coach Jay Norvell called it a shoulder (throwing arm) injury but did not immediately have an update on the severity of the injury.

Millen was 7-of-7 for 62 yards and no touchdowns or interceptions during his playing time.
