NUIC and BNC leaders ahead of quarterfinals

The Illinois High School Association state playoffs have reached the quarterfinals, with six Rockford-area teams still alive, including three out of the NUIC and one out of the Big Northern Conference.

Stillman Valley’s ouster from the postseason probably assures there will be no 1,000-yard rusher to come out of the BNC this season, which is a rarity. But Forreston’s Johny Kobler had another big game in the Cardinals’ upset victory in the second round and he overtook the rushing lead in the NUIC, with 1,296 yards and 21 TDs. He’s one of three backs to go for over 1,000 yards in the NUIC this season, with three more on the doorstep.
