Brackets for 2022 Capitol City Classic released: Modesto Christian, John Paul II headline strong boys field

Organizers of the Capitol City Classic believe the 2022 tournament could be its most competitive field yet.

The first look at the prospective matchups in the annual pre-Christmas annual tournament in Oregon’s capitol city came Thursday.

The boys field is headlined by reigning CIF Open Division state runner-up Modesto Christian (California), Texas private school state champion John Paul II, and St. John Bosco (California). Those three schools will take on Jackson Shelstad and West Linn, which headlines a strong in-state field.

The boys tournament takes place Dec. 16-21 at Willamette University and the expanded, second-year girls bracket runs Dec. 19-21 at Corban University, both in Salem.

The expanded eight-team girls field takes place at Corban University from Dec. 19-21.

The 16-team boys field takes place at Willamette University Dec. 16-21.
