Suspect this after being shot by Fresno County deputies during standoff

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — A suspect has died after being shot during a standoff with Fresno County sheriff’s deputies early Tuesday morning.

The incident started just before 2 am on Belmont between Fancher Creek and DeWolf, near Belmont Country Club.

Deputies initially responded to a shot fired call.

One deputy said he saw a man and then heard gunfire. The patrol unit was hit, but no deputy was injured.

The man reportedly ran off. More deputies arrived and surrounded a home on Wintergreen.

Authorities say they saw the man go back and forth between the backyard and the inside of the home. A PA system was used to try and get the suspect to come out.

Two family members were inside the home at the same time as the suspect. Both people were taken from the home safely.

The suspect was ultimately shot and declared dead at the scene.

Investigators say the man lived at the home where the incident happened.

Deputies say the man damaged a propane tank during the standoff. Nearby residents were evacuated as a precaution.

The man has not been identified at this time.
