Stockton’s Mayfair Seventh-Day Adventist Church prides itself on its big heart, and this weekend, it is backing that up with what members believe is the largest holiday giveaway in the city.Antonio Visoso is a church member at Mayfair. He is one of many excited to give to those who need it.”Why not give if you are able to?” Visoso said.Especially this time of year, church members know the need is great, as Stockton — the county seat of San Joaquin County — is one of the poorest cities in California.The church is going to great lengths to make sure this holiday giveaway is big. At a 3,000-square-foot warehouse and with the help of World Vision ministries, thousands of items are being prepared, including lights, pillows, chairs, tables, couches and coolers — it all totals $500,000.”This is a lot of stuff and the thought that these items will make it out to other people is a wonderful feeling,” head elder Laurence Dailey said. The “A Christmas to Remember” giveaway is on Dec. 11 at Mayfair SDA on 6940 North El Dorado St. The event starts at 1 pm and the items are first come first serve.
