Guitarist Christmas – The Best combination of tube amps

Under the brand name Stage Right by Monoprice, their website has all kinds of pedals, from pedal boards and, you’ve guessed that, amps.

Monoprice is an online destination for tech-savvy customers, so it goes without that I was wondering if their Stage Right by Monoprice 30-Watt Tube Guitar Amp Head and 1×12 Cab could meet the standards of some of their other popular products. And at less than $600 to purchase the complete package and the astonishingly high-quality audio quality and superior construction.

The Stage Right by Monoprice 30-Watt Tube Guitar Amp Head looks overtly nondescript with all-black tolex, save for the triangular-perforated metal faceplate bearing the “SR/Stage Right” branding.

It’s a simple, selectable two-channel amp design featuring low and high inputs as well as a single Bright and Volume switch on the clean channel, Gain as well as Overdrive Volume on the overdrive channel with a channel select switch. Bass Treble and Middle EQ controls, Reverb and Tone controls, as well as Power and Standby switches.

The head is rated at 30 watts in power. It features a quartet of power tubes EL-84 and three 12AX7 preamp tubes, equipped with a built-in tube-driven Reverb driven from one preamp tube and an effects loop in the rear. It is fitted with a single 12 inch Celestion Vintage 30 speaker. It comes with a 2-button footswitch to select channel and the reverb feature, as well as a 1/4 inch TRS speaker cable.

Before any brand snobs totally ignore this amp as a typical foreign amp, I’d like to say that the Stage Right head is an amazing amp. It’s an extremely tuned amp that truly cuts. I found great tone and touch-sensitivity at all levels of volume (and it’s loud! ).

Channel 1 has full-sounding cleans that have plenty of chime. Channel one can be used well as a pedal platform. Switching to channel two presents an abundance of warmth and hint of high-end that can be subdued and controlled by using tones control.

Although the knob for overdrive is adjusted, this isn’t a saturated or flabby crunch, instead, it’s a tight and musical drive that calls for an extra overdrive pedal to fully compliment the overall tone whenever you turn the pedal. There is a general consensus that every amp value (like the EQ or reverb) can be calibrated with a moderating effect so that you can easily create the sound.

As an example, the built-in reverb is slightly weak, however it does not get in the way of the tone. Therefore, surf guitarists will need to create their own reverb however, what is noticeable is the overly stellar, no-frills sound the amp produces.

The 1×12 cab with the Celestion V30 sounds great, however, I have plugged the SR head to other cabs for greater awe-inspiring and more satisfying performance. As a compact unit that is simply stunning? I’m headed for Stage Right.
