Police to provide update on deadly shooting near central Fresno businesses

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — Police are expected to provide an update on a shooting near central Fresno businesses that killed one person and hospitalized another.

Fresno Police say they responded to a ShotSpotter alert and calls of shots fired just before noon Wednesday near Blackstone and Princeton Avenues.

When officers arrived, they found a man in his mid-20s with a gunshot wound to his upper body.

Police tried to save the man but he died at the scene.

A second victim, also identified as a man in his mid-20s, was found shot in the face and was taken to the hospital.

Fresno Police Lt. Paul Cervantes says they have “good video” from inside a nearby smoke shop that captured a large portion of the incident.

He says there appeared to be three people inside the smoke shop who waited for the victims to arrive before shooting at them.

It’s unknown if the victims fired back.

The owner of the smoke shop is cooperating with the police. No other businesses appeared to be struck by gunfire.

Cervantes says the suspects took off on foot and no suspect information is available at this time.
