Bicyclist dies in collision with vehicle in South Sacramento

According to the California Highway Patrol, a fatal accident occurred in South Sacramento on Saturday morning involving a car and a bicyclist. CHP said in a release that a Mazda hit a man on his bike on Highway 99, just north of Mack Road. The driver pulled over after the collision and called 911. Fire officials arrived at the scene and determined that the bicyclist was dead. “The driver of the Mazda remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation and alcohol/drugs have been ruled out,” the statement from CHP read. The bicyclist was a man from Ohio according to CHP’s collision report. Traffic lanes were temporarily closed on Highway 99 in the southbound direction but were eventually cleared.
