Like much of Northern California, the northeastern part of Sacramento County was hit hard by the overnight storm. Strong winds topped dozens of trees, many of them landing on homes and cars. “It was really something,” said John McMullin, who has lived on Sunnybrook Lane in Orangevale for 47 years.See our latest storm coverage hereSunday morning, around one o’clock McMullin was lying in bed as the winds picked up.”I thought a bomb went off,” McMullin said. “It was really crazy.”No, not a bomb, but a huge tree. It fell on top of his home. He said that tree has been around for about 100 years, and it totaled his garage. He will now have to rebuild it. A couple blocks over on Mohawk Lane, the wind buzzed off one tree after another. “It was the loudest thing I ever heard,” resident Luke Forni said. “Four of them went down within 30 minutes. My brother’s car is in there buried underneath a tree.”Cal Fire crews cleared away the tree late Sunday afternoon and sure enough, Forni’s brother’s car is totaled.Trees also fell on Gibbons Drive in Carmichael and right next to Crystal Davis’ home.”About one o’clock, I just heard this big sound and I looked out my bedroom window and I saw the tree in the middle of the road,” Davis said.Thankfully, the tree missed Her house.
