Fresno, Calif. (KFSN) — A major blaze at an auto-wrecking yard is now 100 percent contained, but firefighters continue to put out hot spots.
Small fires broke out in and around the business on Golden State at Maple, just south of Fresno.
Overnight, winds carried embers, catching grass on fire off Highway 99 and Central Avenue.
The initial fire sparked Thursday afternoon at about 1 pm. A massive plume of smoke was seen for miles.
Officials say more than 500 cars were destroyed or damaged.
Multiple fire agencies responded to the scene to assist with the firefight.
Calwa Elementary School had to keep students inside the classrooms due to the smoke.
