New outdoor gym in Sacramento for older adults

Sacramento has a new place to exercise outdoors specially designed for older adults. The city has opened a new gym at the Oak Park Community Center on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The new outdoor fitness park has 11 exercise machines, including an elliptical trainer, two cardio steppers and a place for curl-ups. AARP has partnered with FitLot, a national not-for-profit, to build dozens of similar fitness parks across the country. The Sacramento Fitness Park is managed by the city’s Department of Youth, Parks, and Community Empowerment. Free classes led by certified fitness instructors will be available later this fall, the city says. The park is funded by an AARP grant that also includes programs for three years.
