AN INVESTIGATION IS UNDERWAY IN STOCKTON TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE THAT KILLED ONE PERSON AND INJURED TWO. IT HAPPENED BANCROFT WAY NEAR STANFIELD DRIVE IN STOCKTON. KCRA’S JOSIE HEART SPOKE WITH THE PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN THE COMMUNITY. JOSIE: POLICE HAVE BEEN OUT HERE FOR MOST OF THE DAY. A LOT OF RESIDENTS HAVE BEEN COMING IN AND OUT. SOME RESIDENTS WERE DISTRAUGHT AND SAY THEY DID NOT EXPECT SOMETHING LIKE THIS TO HAPPEN IN THEIR NEIGHBORHOOD AND THEY JUST WANT ANSWERS. >> THE CAR IS DEMOLISHED. I DON’T KNOW HOW TO FEEL ABOUT THIS. I REALLY DON’T KNOW HOW TO FEEL ABOUT THIS. >> STOCKTON FIRE DEPARTMENT CONFIRMED A FIRE THAT HAPPENED DURING THE EARLY MORNING HOURS AT A TRIPLEX IN THE BANCROFT WAY NEIGHBORHOOD, WHICH TOOK THE LIFE OF ONE ADULT, AND LEFT TWO OTHERS INJURED, INCLUDING A CHILD. DELCON ANDREWS SAYS HE HAD JUST TAKEN HIS TRASH OUT WHEN HE HEARD A DISTURBANCE OUTSIDE. >> AS SOON AS I WAS DONE, I JUST HEARD A BOOM, AND THEN HEARD A HONKING. I THOUGHT IT WAS THE TRASH BUT THE TRASH DON’T COME THAT EARLY. >> AND AN UNUSUAL SCENE OUTSIDE THE HOME. A CAR ENGULFED IN FLAMES AND A TRASH CAN NEXT TO IT MELTED DOWN. >> I WALKED MY YOUNGEST TO SCHOOL AND I JUST SAW THE BURNT CAR AND I WAS LIKE, THAT SEEMS SUSPICIOUS. >> OFFICIALS ON SCENE HAVE NOT CONFIRMED HOW THESE FIRES WERE STARTED, OR HOW AND IF THEY ARE CONNECTED BUT RESIDENTS ARE ON THE EDGE. >> I DON’T THINK IT WAS NO ACCIDENT. I THINK SOMEBODY DID IT ON PURPOSE. I REALLY DO BELIEVE THAR SOMEBODY DID THIS ON PURPOSE. >> GIRLEY SAYS SHE KNOWS THE RESIDENTS INSIDE THE TRIPLEX, AND SAYS SHE IS MOST WORRIED FOR THE CHILD INVOLVED. >> THAT’S LIKE MY LITTLE BABY, I HOPE THE BABY IS OK. BECAUSE, HE’S INNOCENT >> FOR NOW, THE SEARCH FOR ANSWERS CONTINUES. One adult died, and another adult and child were hospitalized with burns after an early morning fire in Stockton on Monday, officials said. The Stockton Fire Department said the fire happened at a triplex at 9525 Bancroft Way. The fire was contained to just one unit. The severity of the injuries of the child and adult who were hurt is not known. Fire investigators are working to determine the cause. No other details were released. Stay with KCRA 3 for the latest.
