1934-2022

Linden, California-Roberta was genuinely one of “The Few, The Proud”. She was born in Roosevelt, Utah to Nona P. and Louie C. Roberts on the White Rocks Reservation where her parents taught. After her parents retired the family moved to Salt Lake City where Roberta attended local schools. She is a “Distinguished Alumni” of Westminster College with a degree in Speech and Theater.

While living in the California Bay Area Roberta joined the United States Marine Corps. She entered the Officers Training Program at Quantico, Virginia and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in 1958. In 1959 Roberta was assigned to the Office of the Under Secretary of the Navy, where she work for three Presidents. While working at the Pentagon Roberta was promoted to Captain. Roberta’s next assignment was to fleet Marine Pacific in Hawaii, then to El Toro, California where she was promoted to Major. Roberta was then stationed in Stuttgart, Germany where she received the Joint Service Commendation Medal. Roberta’s next assignment was to Parris Island, South Carolina where she was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal. In 1972 Roberta was transferred to Quantico to attend the Command and Staff College. There she became Director of the Women’s Officer School where she facilitated the integration of women into the male Officer Training program. Robert’s last promotion was to Colonel and in 1976 she was selected to attend the Naval War College in New Port, RI. , the second woman to attend at that time. Roberta was then transferred to USMC Headquarters as Head of Human Resources and awarded the Legion of Merit.

After retiring from the Marine Corps in 1979, Roberta returned to Salt lake to care for her parents. While helping the family doctor organize his office, her skills led to a career with the Utah Diabetes and Endocrinology Center. In 2011 Roberta from the University of Utah. While living in Salt Lake City Roberta was very active in both “The Eastern Star” as Worthy Matron and “The Daughter of the Nile” as Queen.

In 2012 Roberta joined family members in Linden, California. While in Linden Roberta became active in Linden Friends of the Library (she was a known bookworm} and the Linden Community Garden Club. Roberta relaxed and thoroughly enjoyed her life in the orchard/vineyard community.

Throughout her career Roberta remained active in Little Theater groups, choirs and musical entertainments. Roberta staged and gave performances from Hawaii to Germany and so many places in between.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Linden, California on October 22, 2022. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to your local Library or Veteran’s support group of your choice
