I LOOK UP TO PEOPLE LIKE THAT. >> LED BY LOCAL FIREFIGHTERS WITH YEARS OF EXPERIENCE. >> THE EMPOWERMENT IS THE CORE OF WHAT WE DO AND THE MISSION THAT WE ARE TRYING TO CARRY OUT HERE. >> LEARNING REAL LIFE SKILLS, LIKE SEARCH AND RESCUE, FIRST AID, CPR, AND SO MUCH MORE. >> WE ARE USING SALT WE’RE DOING , HOSES, WE’RE RAISING LADDERS, WE’RE CLIMBING UP THESE MASSIVE BUILDINGS >> A LEADER IN OUR NATIONS FIRE SERVICE, THE NATIONAL FIRE PROTECTION ASSOCIATION, IN THE LAST FEW YEARS FOUND DATA THAT SAYS EACH YEAR MORE WOMEN JOIN FIRE DEPARTMENTS. BUT EVEN WITH GROWING THOSE NUMBERS WOMEN STILL MAKE UP AROUND 10% OF US FIRE DEPARTMENTS. BUT JUST BECAUSE DATA MAY POINT , TOWARDS THAT NOW THE FUTURE OF THE INDUSTRY MAY VERY WELL BE INFLUENCE FROM DAYS LIKE TODAY. BECAUSE YOU MAY VERY WELL BE LOOKING AT THE FUTURE OF FIRE. >> JUST SEEING ALL THESE WOMEN, AROUND HERE, WHO ARE DOING SO MUCH FOR THE FIRE SERVICE, AND BEING FIREFIGHTERS, IT KIND OF JUST, SEEING IT AND BELIEVING IT, YOU KNOW, I CAN SEE THEM I CAN SEE THEM DOING THESE AMAZING THINGS AND NOW I CAN DO THESE AMAZING THINGS TO HELP MY COMMUNIT

Over the weekend, the Sacramento City Fire Department is working overtime to inspire the next generation of firefighters. In a camp held this weekend, the department is hosting a ‘Girls Fire Camp’ for teenagers in high school local female firefighters where the teens are introduced to a series of skills including search and rescue, first aid, CPR and more. Encouraging a love for public service and a commitment to the community, the camp is designed to give the teenagers an idea of what life would be like dedicating their careers to the fire service.”I can see them I can see them doing these amazing things and now I can do these amazing things to help my community,” said teenage attendee Penelope Robinson.See more in the video above.
