First look at the SJSU Spartans

The Fresno State Bulldogs (1-4, 0-1) are looking to break a four-game losing skid. In-state rival San Jose State travels from the Silicon Valley to the Central Valley on a red-hot three-game winning streak with a combined score of 107-29. BarkBoard.com takes a closer look at the Spartans.

It was just Thanksgiving last year when the Bulldogs won the 2021 Valley Rivalry 40-7. The script has been flipped as the Spartans are eight-point favorites this year. SJSU is led by a veteran defense and an offense now quarterbacked by Hawaii transfer Chevan Cordeiro.

“I feel like he has been around forever,” Fresno State head coach Jeff Tedford said of Cordeiro. “He has a lot of experience, and it seems like he understands what is going on in their offense. He’s doing a great job. He hasn’t thrown any interceptions yet. He is very dangerous and accurate throwing the ball – he has a lot of weapons. He’s really doing a great job with his legs with the designed quarterback runs as well as just scrambling. He is fast and effective. He is a weapon.”

“Then, their defense, is No. 1 in the conference in scoring defense, they only give up 14 points a game. They are a very solid team all the way around.”
