Sacramento County condo complex goes weeks without hot water

WHAT THE PROBLEM IS AND WHEN IT WILL BE FIXED. >> THIS WAS THE MOST RECENT BREAK AS A FRIDAY. >> AARON KENNEDY SHOWS A MAIN BREAK AT HER COMPLEX. ONE OF SEVERAL SPOTS THAT HAS BEEN DONE THAT. >> BECAUSE OF THE PIPE PROBLEMS ALL RESIDENTS HAVE BEEN WITHOUT CONSISTENT HOT WATER SINCE DECEMBER 29. >> WE ARE EIGHT COMMUNITY AND CHAOS AT THIS POINT. >> THEY HAVE CONFIRMED THAT 162 UNITS ARE DEALING WITH THIS. ADDING THAT THE COMPLEX HAS AN OLDER CENTRALIZED PIPE SYSTEM. >> IT IS A COMPLETE INCONVENIENCE. WE CAN’T DO LAUNDRY. WE HAVE TO BOIL WATER TO BATHE AND WASH DISHES. >> IT SO PEREZ IS DOING THOSE TASKS AT HER MOM’S HOUSE. >> IT HAS BEEN’S SLEEP DEPRIVATION AND SOME DEPRESSION BECAUSE IT DOESN’T FEEL LIKE A PLACE WHERE I’M COMFORTABLE ANYMORE. >> THE BOARD SAYS THEY’VE HAD SIMILAR ISSUES BEFORE. THIS TIME, EVEN THOUGH PIPES ARE BEING FIXED IN THE HOT WATER COMES BACK FOR A SHORT TIME, MORE PIPES ARE BREAKING SO THE PROBLEM RETURNS. IT IS UNCLEAR WHEN THE PER — WHEN THE CURRENT PROBLEM WILL BE FIXED. THE BOARD IS CURRENTLY OBTAINING ESTIMATES TO REHABILITATE OR REPLACE THE HOT WATER SYSTEM. THE BOARD IS INSTALLING A SEPARATE HOT WATER HEATER IN THE COMMUNITY GYM FOR HOT SHOWERS DURING ANY INTERRUPTIONS OF SERVICE. >> WE HAVE >> CONTACTED THEM ABOUT COMPENSATION. Sacramento County condo complex goes nearly 3 weeks without hot water

The complex’s HOA told KCRA 3 the plumbing issues have been ‘severely aggravated’ by the recent storms

Residents of the Alicante Villas in Sacramento County said they have been without consistent hot water for nearly three weeks.Erin Kennedy, who rents a unit at the condominium complex, said the issue first started on Dec. 29. KCRA 3 has confirmed with the Alicante Villas HOA Board, which is in charge of the hot water, that all 162 units are dealing with this, adding that the complex has an older, centralized pipe system.”We’re just a community in chaos,” Kennedy said. “It’s a complete inconvenience. We can’t do laundry. We can’t shower regularly. We have to boil water to bathe. We have to boil water to wash dishes.”Itzel Perez, another resident who owns her condo at Alicante Villas , said she is doing those everyday tasks at her mother’s house. Perez said the travel time, paired with her demanding schedule, has made this whole situation challenging.”It just adds time to my day. I don’t get home until 10 or 11 pm, and then I work at 5 am the next day ,” Perez said. “It’s just been sleep deprivation, and I’ll be honest, some depression because it just doesn’t feel like a place where I’m comfortable anymore.”The Alicante Villas HOA Board told KCRA 3 it has had similar issues before. But this time, even though pipes are being fixed and the hot water comes back for a short time, more pipes have been breaking, leading once again to a lack of hot water. The board said that is why it is unclear when the current problem will be fixed. The board sent KCRA 3 the following statement: “Over the past eighteen months, the hot water plumbing system at Alicante Villas has experienced 3 brief interruptions. In each instance the board has worked with contractors to repair and restore hot water service within 36 hours.The plumbing issues have been severely aggravated by the recent series of storms.Over the next few months, the board is currently obtaining estimates to rehabilitate or replace the current hot As this process proceeds, the board is installing a separate hot water heater in the community gym for hot showers during any interruptions of service. We are also in regular communication with our residents. We understand the frustration. As board members and unit owners we are also impacted by the plumbing issues.The board is grateful for the ongoing patience of the community and will work with management to keep the community updated on the restoration process.”KCRA 3 also asked the Alicante HOA Board if residents would be compensated due to the hot water issues. They said the board has no plans to compensate residents because its focus is on fixing the issue, and it claimed the board has already spent tens of thousands on trying to solve the problem.Some property owners who live at Alicante Villas told KCRA 3 that if the problem is not fixed soon, they plan to take legal action.
