On Thursday July 7 2022, Allen R. Hamric, loving husband, father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather passed away at the age of 78. Allen was born October 2nd 1943 to Andrew and Ivene Hamric. He was the youngest of 5 children.
A lifelong Sacramento resident, he graduated from Hiram Johnson High School in 1961 where he was a saxophone player in the band. He went on to study Aeronautics at Sacramento City College and got his pilot’s license. He served in the Air Force and reserves in the 940th Support Squadron at McClelland AFB.
In 1967 he married Clara “Penny” Jessup and stepped up to be a father to Pamela (Armitage) and Scott (Chandler) from Penny’s previous marriage. In 1968 Allen and Penny had a daughter Wendy (Jones). He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and taught his children and grandchildren the value of family. Whether it was camping, sailing, music/classic movie appreciation, or deep discussions about how things work, he loved to spend time with his family.
Allen worked at AAA as an insurance claims adjuster and trained new employees. He also worked on insurance fraud investigation. He retired in 1988.
Allen was very involved in his community and groups. He served on many boards within the communities he lived in, including Fruitridge Community Board, Fruitridge Fire Board, and the Cedarwood Homeowners Board. He survived Polio as a child, and although he went on to live a normal life for many years, he later suffered Post-Polio Syndrome (PPS). He helped form a support group in the 90’s for this condition. For fun, he liked to build and fly remote control aircraft and was very active in the Sacramento Area Modelers group. He enjoyed woodworking, photography, and picture developing in his own darkroom.
Allen was preceded in death by Penny, his wife and his son Scott, as well as all his siblings, Shirley (Ekstrand), Robert, Floyd, and Wayne. At the time of his death, he lived in Rio Linda with his youngest daughter, Wendy. He is survived by his daughters Pamela and Wendy, grandchildren Jenna (Chandler), Kristyn (Coleman), Cierra (Leonardo), Coletin (Jones), great-grandchildren Myracle-Lee, Delilah, Grayson, Sawyer, and many nieces and nephews.
He lived a full and wonderful life. He believed in the hereafter and was an active member of the LDS Church. Family and friends are welcome to Celebrate his Life and share stories on Saturday October 15, 2022 at the Depot Building located 6730 Front St, Rio Linda, CA 95673 from 12PM to 4PM.
