Brief EF-0 tornado touches down in Sacramento County during weekend storm, NWS says

A brief tornado touched down during Saturday’s storm in south Sacramento County, according to the National Weather Service.The NWS confirmed on Sunday that a brief EF-0 tornado touched down near Rancho Seco Park at around 2 pm The EF scale is used to assign a Tornado rating based on estimated wind speeds and damage. A “0” rating means that a three-second gust ranged from 65 to 85 mph. Estimated peak winds for this tornado reached 80 mph, with a path length of approximately .3 miles and a maximum width of about 50 yards. Three homes along Kirkwood Street, east of Herald, were damaged. “Roof damage to two garages was observed. An RV shelter structure, as well as dog kennels, were lifted up off the ground and sustained damage,” NWS said.KCRA 3 viewers in that area shared photos of the damage to their homes from the storm It’s not clear if these were the homes damaged by the tornado. No injuries were reported in connection with the tornado.
