In Loving Memory of Deborah (Debi) Elizabeth Stabelfeldt-Brooks
Deborah passed suddenly at her home in the early morning on Sunday, August 21, 2022. She was 68 years old.
Debi was born in Van Nuys, California on December 3, 1953, to parents, Erwin & Emily Stabelfeldt who preceded her in death. Debi grew up in Northridge, California and graduated in the Class of 1971 from Grover Cleveland High School in Reseda, California.
Debi Stabelfeldt and Jon Brooks met in the high school youth group at the First Baptist Church of Van Nuys and were married there on June 9, 1973. Mr. & Mrs. Brooks recently celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary.
Married life began in Southern, CA (4 years), then Denver, CO (2 years), Modesto, CA (35 years) and retirement in Beaverton, OR for the last 8 years. Debi is survived by her husband Jon, her three children: Charles (Shelly) of Modesto, Emily of Beaverton and Laurel (Peter) of Beaverton and 6 grandchildren: Jackson, Lincoln, Knox, Priya, Caroline and Rohin. Debi is survived by her brother David (Cynthia) of Long Beach, CA and their two children. She was preceded in death by her Aunt and God Mother, Elizabeth “Betty” Butenschoen.
Debi attended the Modesto Junior College Nursing School and graduated with honors in 1990, and began her career as a Licensed Vocational Nurse on the Ortho/Neuro floor at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto, CA. Her nursing career spanned 23 years with most experience in the Newborn Nursery, Post Partum and Labor & Delivery Departments. Debi was also a Bradley Natural Childbirth Educator and Lactation Coach. She was recognized for her compassionate and dedicated patient care with the “Circle of Excellence” award.
Debi was a devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Friend. She channeled her love for family and nature as a constant gardener and masterful quiltmaker. Debi transformed landscapes with beautiful flower beds and ornamental plants, and skillfully tended her vegetable gardens. She designed and crafted hand-made quilts as wedding gifts for her children and to celebrate the births of her grandchildren, and quilted Christmas stockings for all. Debi is remembered for her love of animals, as an avid reader, music lover (Beatles, Gordon Lightfoot, Simon & Garfunkel, James Taylor, etc.) and family heritage historians. She is remembered for her strong “Keep A-Goin” attitude, fun sense of humor, and love for her family.
Debi’s faith in Jesus Christ gives comfort and peace to endure this loss.
The immediate family will have a private remembrance at Trillium Lake in Oregon and will plan a public Memorial Service in Modesto, California at a later date.
