Elizabeth Nelson Obituary (1936 – 2022) – Sacramento, CA
Elizabeth Frances Nelson
April 12, 1936 – July 3, 2022
Sacramento, California – Elizabeth Frances Nelson (Stacey), born April 12, 1936, died July 3, 2022 surrounded by her family.
Elizabeth was born in Sacramento, CA on Easter Sunday, April 12, 1936, and was thereafter known to her family as Bunny.
Elizabeth was a kind, quiet, shy, intelligent girl. She loved to roller skate, which gave her what her future husband called “world class legs.”
She met her Marine, the love of her life, Edward Nelson, as a teenager, and was married to him on June 30, 1956. They shared 57 years of marriage before Edward passed in 2013. Elizabeth is survived by children Dawn Nelson Sage, Kelly Nelson Fagan, Edward Nelson, and John Nelson.
Elizabeth was grandmother to Jennifer Sage Sherman and Aaron Sage, Brian Fagan and Jessica Fagan Bradley, and Edward, Ravi and Priya Nelson. She was great grandmother to Christian and Chelsie Sage, and Connor and Logan Bradley.
The last of the original Stacey Clan, she is preceded in death by parents Victor and Margaret Stacey, and all her brothers and sisters: Vernon, Joseph, Jessie, William, Dolores, Nicolaus, Kathleen, and Richard. Along with her children and grandchildren, she is survived by dozens of nieces, nephews and their children.
Elizabeth worked at American Optical from 1953 to 1963, and later as a Computer Operations Specialist for the State of California Department of Justice, from where she retired.
Elizabeth loved her family, scrambled eggs with toast buttered edge-to-edge, Thunder Valley, Jeopardy and Dean Martin. She also loved to cook, watch old movies, and travel. After her retirement, she visited Hong Kong, Hawaii, Italy and Sicily, and Washington, DC. Her spaghetti sauce was legendary, as was her lasagna, beef stroganoff, and her St. Patrick’s Day corned beef. The biscotti and other Italian treats she would make around Christmas became famous to family and friends. She also enjoyed researching her family’s genealogy.
Elizabeth was honest, loyal, strong, tough, resilient, and always there with loving arms, a helping hand, or a foot in the backside when needed. She is in our hearts and souls forever.
Celebration of life pending. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Elizabeth’s name be sent to:
