McClaskey Adult Center receives new trailer from couple, after van and trailer were stolen

In late July, KCRA 3 told you about a van and trailer that were stolen from the A. Warren McClaskey Adult Center in Sacramento. The Sacramento City Unified School District campus provides classes and resources for adult students with disabilities. The stolen items are critical for the center’s recycling program.Since 1992, students have been taking the van and trailer to collect recyclable items from schools, businesses, and government buildings. They take those items, sort them on campus, then bring them to the recycling center for money. Without the van and trailer, the program was limited and was impacting students. KCRA 3 viewers saw the story about the theft and decided to step up to buy the center a new trailer. The school’s director, Dr. Sue Gilmore, said her faith in humanity has been restored.”These folks were very, very giving,” she said. “It’s greatly appreciated.”Dan and Shannon Hickman, the husband and wife owners of Hickman Utility in Rocklin, donated the brand new trailer from Western Featherlite Trailers. Their donation expedited the center’s ability to get a new trailer. Without the donation, the school district would have purchased the trailer, but it likely would have taken longer due to purchasing logistics. Thanks to the Hickmans, McClaskey’s recycling program can begin again in full force. District leaders say the new trailer will be kept in a secure, hidden location for now. As for the van that was stolen, it has been recovered by law enforcement.SCUSD said it is currently being repaired by the district’s transportation mechanics.
