Michael Leroy Kinman
September 1, 2022
Carmichael, California – Michael L. Kinman, Carmichael CA, passed peacefully to eternity on September 1, 2022. Michael was the fourth of 8 children born to Viola and Joe Kinman on April 14, 1953. He was raised in Kentucky and moved to Northern California a few years after his college graduation.
Michael’s life was one of helping others – – first in various sales positions, then Interior Design and finally as a drug and alcohol counselor. He excelled in whatever he did with his passion and energy to help people. He was with Western Contract before opening his interior design business, Michael Kinman and Associates. He had a marvelous opportunity to bring excellent design to many homes in the Sacramento metro area as well as his own homes. After closing his interior design business, he chose a new path and became a counselor at One Community Health, formerly known as CARES.
Michael enjoyed everything he did – – music, boating, gardening, being on the coast . . . and especially all things related to cars. California was a perfect environment for all of these things. After he moved to the West Coast, he took great pleasure in introducing his family to California – – San Francisco, Sausalito, Pebble Beach, the wine country and Palm Springs.
Michael was gregarious, fun-loving and loved to tease people and family. He took great pleasure in doting on nieces and nephews. They always wanted to visit “Uncle Michael” to enjoy a special experience with him. From these visits, there are so many special memories for which we are grateful.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, Joe Kinman. Survivors include his mother, Viola Kinman of Fort Wright, KY; brother Tom Kinman (Betty) of Charlotte, NC; sisters Paula Clements (Bill) of Fairfield, OH; Pat Avery (Daniel) of Erlangen, KY; Becky Vittetoe (Henry) of Hebron, KY; Nancy G. Kinman of Fort Wright, KY and Tammi Ruppert (Jon) of Walton, KY. In addition to his mother, siblings and spouses, Michael leaves 14 nieces and nephews and 17 great nieces and nephews.
The past nine months have been at an especially difficult time as Michael’s health was failing. His family thanks Ken Ballew, Michael’s long-time friend of 30 years for his constant care, love and support. Additionally, we thank Kaiser Sacramento Hospice for their compassionate and loving care during Michael’s end of life on earth.
Celebration of life services will be held locally and in Kentucky on later dates.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Michael’s memory to the Joe T. and Viola Ray Kinman Trust of Ministering to Ministers, c/o Leslie Carter, 3120 Sedgefield Gate, Greensboro, NC 27407 or Kaiser Sacramento Hospice, 3240 Arden Way, Suite 165, Sacramento, CA 95825.
