Paratransit delivers 2 million meals to NorCal residents during pandemic

The city of Sacramento had meals for residents in April 2020, when the pandemic first began, but needed a way to get them to deliver them. That’s when Paratransit stepped up and on Friday the company delivered its two millionth meal.”We had a staff who was willing to serve who knew that these riders that we were invested in were needing resources,” said Tiffani Fink, Paratransit CEO.Paratransit staff delivered more than 1,000 meals a week since the start of the pandemic. On Friday, Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg was on hand to hand-deliver meal number two million.”This is exciting it makes you feel good about Sacramento because this was born out of adversity,” Steinberg said. “This is a community that always steps up.”Steinberg carried the box up to Lorenzo Murillo’s front door.”Do you know what this is, Lorenzo?” Steinberg asked, “This is the two millionth meal that we, the community has delivered under the great plates program since COVID.””I appreciate that,” Murillo said.Paratransit said it will continue to deliver meals and hopes to expand the program.
