Phyllis Ewing Obituary (2022) – Stockton, MO

Phyllis Carol (Campbell) Ewing, Stockton, MO, passed away Tuesday, August 9th, 2022 at the Stockton Nursing home after a long and courageous fight against Leukemia. Phyllis was born in Humansville, MO on October 1st, 1940 to Courtland and Marjorie (Strange) Campbell. She and her younger brother, Michael Campbell, were raised in the Stockton Hotel, (formerly “The Tennessee House” ) east of the square in Stockton.
On May 25th, 1958, Phyllis married Edward “Eli” Ewing. To this union, 3 children were born, Gina, Brian, and Rex.
In the mid-1970’s, Phyllis and Eli formed a construction company. This business eventually evolved into what is now Ewing Concrete, where she served as the bookkeeper for many years.
Over the years, Phyllis was very active. She loved participating in bowling leagues, oil painting, boating, square dancing, and playing card games. Lots of card games, she was a shark! In recent years, she enjoyed playing cards several times a week with many of her beloved friends.
When the family would gather at their place, Saturday night was game night at Granny’s! She often stayed up till the early hours of the morning playing canasta, spades, kings in the corner, or any game for that matter. She was always learning another version of canasta to teach us. We just started calling them Granny’s Rules! As long as we were having fun together she was happy!
She was saved in her early twenties and attended the Stockton Christian Church. She took great pride in her children and grandchildren and considered them her greatest accomplishment. She loved watching the grandchildren participate in sports or any activity they were interested in. We will cherish the memories of handmade stockings around a fireplace, the best apple pie ever, and the traditional (mandatory) Christmas treasure hunt.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Courtland and Marjorie Campbell, her husband Eli, brothers-in-law, Tom Ewing and Jerry Phillips, sister-in-laws, Nina Phillips and Brenda Campbell.
She is survived by her daughter Gina Pope of Olathe, KS, son Brian Ewing and wife Jayne of Stockton, MO, and son Rex Ewing and wife Luci of Bolivar, MO. Grandchildren, Derek Pope and wife Kelli, Nick Pope and wife Sarah, Dalton Pope, Robbe Ewing and wife Kelsey, Taylor Pfeifer and husband Justin, Bailey and Kyla Ewing. Six Great-Grandchildren, Charlotte and Amelia Pope, Owen and Mack Pope, Eli Pope and Macyn Ewing, brother Mike Campbell, and sister-in-law Ellen Ewing.
She was a wonderful wife, mom, and granny whom we loved so much. Her life was such a blessing to us all. She will be missed by so many but we ask that you remember the laughs and love you shared with her.
