Sacramento proposes city council youth advisory liaison

Sacramento leaders on Tuesday approved a new youth advisory liaison position on the city council. The idea is to bring in the perspective of a younger person on how to spend the city budget, to assess the city’s programs, look at how land is used and anything else the council members decide. City council member Jay Schenirer made the proposal, saying the city has been trying for years to make Sacramento youth-friendly.”What this does is it puts a young person at the dais,” he said. “They’re not a voting member but what we want to do is be able to engage them on all these issues that are so important to their own futures.” The council hopes to start the selection process next month.
