Sacramento Vice Mayor Eric Guerra appointed to Air Resource Board

Sacramento’s Vice Mayor Eric Guerra has been appointed to California’s Air Resource Board, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced. Guerra, 44, has been on the Sacramento City Council since 2015 and previously was a consultant for the state Senate. Guerra grew up as a migrant farmworker in Esparto and graduated from Sacramento State University with a bachelor’s degree in electrical and electronic engineering and a master’s in public policy. He is in his seventh year as a member of the Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District and served as the chair for four years. He was defeated by Stephanie Nguyen in a race for a state assembly seat in November. Guerra is among six Democrats who Newsom nominated on Monday for CARB board positions, two of whom were reappointed. The positions require Senate confirmation. Guerra’s position would be unpaid. CARB oversees air pollution control efforts and is the lead agency for climate change programs, according to its website. Of the 16 people on its board, 12 are appointed by the governor, including six who serve on local air districts and four who are experts on air quality.”I am incredibly honored to have been appointed by Governor Newsom to the California Air Resources Board ,” Guerra said in a statement on Tuesday. “I’m excited to continue the state’s critical work, leading the nation in protecting the public from the harmful effects of air pollution and taking the necessary actions to fight climate change.”The governor’s office said there are no remaining CARB vacancies on the board It’s not yet clear when the appointments will be taken up for confirmation.
