I THINK IT’S A GOOD THING THAT WE’RE LKIOONG AT WHAT’S GOING INTO THE LANDFILLS, YOU KNOW, JUST NEED TO KNOW A LITTLE BIT MORE AUTBO IT, ESPECIALLY SINCE IT’S GOING TO START WITHIN A MONTH. THE NEW RULES COME WITHEW N COSTS. SO STARTING LAST MONTH RATES INCREASE TO 14 DOLLARS AND 32 CENTS. Starting on July 1, the city of Sacramento will require its residential customers to sort out organic food waste as part of a new recycling program.Organic food waste will have to be disposed of in the green city yard waste bins. That includes fruit and vegetable scraps, eggs, meat, bones and food-soiled papers, such as pizza boxes, coffee filters and napkins.The new recycling program is required statewide by law in an effort to reduce methane emissions by limiting what is going into landfills.Starting last month, rates increased to $14.32 a month for homeowners paying for yard waste collection. Those who are not currently paying for that service will get a new monthly charge of $10.02, starting in July.The city is asking residents not to start putting organic food waste in the green bins with yard waste earlier than July 1.
