William Woods men’s soccer blows lead late against Culver-Stockton

William Woods men’s soccer had to have been frustrated with Saturday’s 3-2 loss against Culver-Stockton College Saturday at Fulton.

The Owls were up by one goal in the 74th minute, but the Wildcats tied it in the 81st and scored the decider in the 83rd minute.

Woods goalkeeper Iker Gonzalez did his best to keep the team in it, making six saves on nine shots on goal.

The lone goal in the first half was scored by Culver-Stockton’s Baldo Moreno in the 19th minute.

The Wildcats’ offense was lively in the first 45 minutes, outshooting the Owls 10 to four. But Woods outshot Culver-Stockton 10 to seven in the second half, yet it still wasn’t enough.

Vicente Poblete scored the Owls’ first goal in the 62nd minute and was assisted by Florian Senst.

Woods added another 12 minutes later thanks to Omar Ariel Murillo Hernandez, who netted it unassisted.

Then came Culver-Stockton’s rapid-fire comeback as it scored two goals in two minutes.

Adam Naim scored the Wildcats’ leveler in the 81st minute.

Then, Ruben Reinertsen sent the traveling Culver-Stockton fans home happy scoring the winning goal in the 83rd minute. Parsa Asadpoor ​​assisted the decider.

The Owls (1-3-2) will play Iowa Wesleyan (0-6) in their final nonconference game at 3:30 pm Saturday in Fulton.
