Winters Theater Company to perform Shakespeare classic, Woodland Opera House comedy show
The Winters Theater Company is inviting the community to four fun-filled evenings for their Shakespeare Under the Stars production of popular comedy “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”
Set in Athens, this comic masterpiece consists of several subplots that revolve around the marriage of Theseus and Hippolyta. The play brings together charming depictions of fairy folk, Athenian workmen, a mischief-making elf and run-away young lovers, often resulting in hilarious results.
The first performance will open on Friday, Aug. 5 in the outdoor amphitheater behind the Winters Community Center, located at 201 Railroad Ave. The shows will continue on Saturday, Aug. 6, Friday, Aug. 12 and Saturday, Aug. 13. All performances begin at 7 pm
Tickets are available at the door for $10. Children under 12 will be admitted for free.

Join the Woodland Opera House for a night of standup comedy, hilarious videos about Woodland and music as they present “Standup of the Opera” for one night only.
The performance will feature comedian Richard Stockton along with rising comedy stars Faco! and Emily Catalano.
Stockton has appeared on dozens of national TV shows, performed at sold out houses, produced and hosted the long-running Planet Cruz Comedy Hour in Santa Cruz and is the author of the best-selling book “Fondle the Fear.” Stockton tells stories of unexpected outcomes, performed over his Delta-blues guitar.
Los Angeles-based Catalano recently made her late-night debut on “Conan” with Conan O’Brien. Latin comedian Faco! Is known as a hilarious cutting edge social commentator and is host of San Francisco-based podcast “Spontaneous Innuendos.”
A video spoof of “Phantom of the Opera” will open the show, in which the Standup of The Opera writes the jokes for the show in the catacombs beneath The Woodland Opera House.

Jo and the Schmoes is set to be the featured act at the Village Homes Performers’ Circle in Davis.
Jo and the Schmoes, also known as the Ron Goldberg Trio, is a three-piece band performing a variety of songs taken from oldies rock, folk, country and blues. The trio, currently made up of Goldberg on vocals, guitar and other stringed instruments, Phil Hildenbrand on percussion and Cedar Seeger on vocals, bass and six string guitar, has been providing music to the area since Goldberg came to Davis in 1975.
The Village Homes Performers’ Circle is a free event that welcomes performers of all levels as well as audience members who simply come to enjoy the performances. No tickets or reservations are required. Resuming after a two year hiatus during the pandemic, the event is held the fourth Tuesday of each month, except December.
The event begins with an open mic and concludes with the featured performance. The featured act performs from 8:30 to 9 pm

The Acme Theater Company in Davis is set to present “The Three Musketeers” this summer.
Adapted from the novel by Alexandre Dumas, this comedic, swashbuckling adventure begins in 1625 as leaves behind his mother and father, setting off for Paris in search of adventure. Upon reaching Paris, d’Artagnan interviews with Treville to become a musketeer and encounters Athos, Porthos and Aramis — the famous musketeers. D’Artagnan joins forces with his heroes, quickly becoming caught up in the politics of the court.
Performances will take place at 7 pm on Friday and Saturday and 2 pm on Sunday from July 22 to Aug. 7 at the Wyatt Pavilion Theater on Old Davis Road by the UC Davis arboretum.
All audience members are required to wear masks (when not eating or drinking) and show proof of COVID-19 vaccination or results of a negative at-home COVID-19 test within the last 72 hours.
