A caretaker shot and killed a man who tried attacking him in a backyard, the Stockton Police Department said Sunday.Officers got a call on Saturday around 6:30 pm from the 43-year-old caretaker, who was taking care of an 88- year-old man at a home in the 3200 block of Allstone Way, police said. When officers arrived, they found the 38-year-old assailant.Police said that man was transported to a hospital where he later died of his injuries.Information so far led officers to believe the caretaker shot the man out of fear for his life, police said. The San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office said the shooting “appears to be justified, at this time,” according to the police department.It is unknown if the caretaker and attacker knew each other, police said.Anyone with information is asked to call 209 -937-8377.
