It was the end of a two-year in-person hiatus because of the COVID-19 pandemic; it was also a day of activity and fun at The Record’s 25th annual Family Day at the Park.
The venue moved to Weber Point Events Center and a large crowd turned out for a day of nearly perfect weather to celebrate literacy with everything from the Chavez High band, led by Art Coleman, who just a few months ago was honored with the Stockton Unified School District’s new administrative building being named for him.
Stockton Police Chief Stan McFadden was jumping rope.
The mascots from San Joaquin Delta College, University of the Pacific, California State University, Stanislaus Stockton campus and the Stockton Kings played with children. And there were plenty of books, pencils and other goodies given away to promote literacy and learning.
