July 30, 2022 – California League (CalL) – Fresno Grizzlies News Release
Modesto, CA – Vroom! In celebration of Minor League Baseball’s Copa de la Diversion, the Lowriders de Fresno (56-38, 15-13) cruised past the Los Alebrijes de Modesto (46-48, 16-12) 10-4 Friday night from John Thurman Field. With the triumph, Fresno snapped their seven-game losing streak on the road and against Modesto. The Lowriders improved to 4-0 on the season and became the second Fresno alternate identity to pick up an away victory. Fresno has won on the road as the Tacos, most recently defeating the San Jose Giants on May 5, 2021.
The Lowriders offense clicked on all cylinders, driving in 10 runs on 11 hits, nine walks and four errors. Eight of the nine starters reached base safely with seven of them producing a hit. Of the 11 hits, five of them landed for extra-bases with two batters picking up multiple RBI. Ben Sems led the charge with four RBI after blasting a homer in the eighth and smoking a double in the ninth. It was his second consecutive contest going deep and was eerily similar to his bomb on Thursday (two-run shot in the eighth off of a lefty pitcher). Yanquiel Fernandez tallied the other multiple RBI game after a bases-clearing triple in the fifth. It was his fourth triple of the season.
Besides the duo above, a group of other Fresno batters enjoyed excellent evenings. Yorvis Torrealba continued his Lowriders dominance, reaching base four times. Torrealba spanked two hits and drew a pair of walks. He scored three times and notched one RBI. Braxton Fulford also had a great final line, roping a double among his three hits and waltzing home twice. Adael Amador snuck on base with a double and two walks, extending his hit streak to six games. Benny Montgomery reached base three times thanks to a single, walk and hit-by-pitch. Juan Brito also found his way on a trio of times after two walks and a single.
The offensive outpouring was matched by Fresno starter Case Williams. The righty relished his league-best ninth win after six strong innings. He allowed two runs on five hits while fanning seven. The Lowriders have won 11 of his last 12 starts dating back to May 11. Luis Amoroso secured a hold after two frames of work and Tanner Propst tossed a clean ninth inning. On the other side, Modesto righty Jimmy Joyce (0-1) suffered the setback after permitting three runs on four hits.
Modesto’s lineup was headlined by former Rockies’ outfielder Walking Cabrera. He whacked a triple and double while plating one run. Randy Bednar supplied two hits and RBI while walking once. Jonatan Clase poked a double among a pair of hits in the loss. The clubs continue the series tomorrow night from John Thurman Field.
