Maserati driver dies after crash into 4 cars in Sacramento

A driver speeding through a south Sacramento intersection died after his car hit a median, went airborne then crashed into four other cars on Wednesday, the California Highway Patrol said.The crash happened at the intersection of 47th Avenue and Steiner Drive on Wednesday around 1: 55pm, CHP said. Four vehicles were waiting for a red light in the number two lane eastbound lane of 47th Avenue. The 56-year-old man driving the Maserati was going westbound on 47th Avenue when he lost control of his vehicle while trying to turn left, witnesses said. Witnesses also told CHP the Maserati was going about 90 miles per hour. The 56-year-old lost control of his vehicle just as the traffic light turned green at Steiner Drive. The Maserati hit the raised concrete center median and became airborne before hitting all four cars on 47th Avenue, CHP said.The driver of the Maserati was ejected and taken to the hospital with major injuries where he died, authorities said. Three other drivers and a passenger suffered minor injuries. Of the four people injured, three were taken to the hospital. Both directions of 47th Avenue were closed for about an hour. No other details were released.
