McClatchy students in Sacramento walk out to protest gun violence

Hundreds of students at CK McClatchy High School in Sacramento walked out of class Wednesday in protest of gun violence and to honor the lives of the 19 children and two teachers killed in the Uvalde shooting last week. The protest outside the school lasted 30 minutes, KCRA 3’s Brittany Hope reported. Among those who spoke at the protest was city councilwoman Katie Valenzuela. Watch Brittany Hope’s full live report on the KCRA 3 News at 4 pm The walkout comes after similar demonstrations across the country since the Texas school shooting. “Sac City Unified is aware of a growing nationwide movement of student walkouts in the wake of yet another tragic school shooting in Uvalde, Texas,” the Sacramento City Unified School District said in a statement. “The safety of our students and staff is a top concern for our District. Sac City Unified supports the rights of CK McClatchy students to have their voices heard on this important topic. We are aware of a planned demonstration and will take all necessary steps to ensure the safety of all who participate.”
