Waterford, California – Phillip Hartman Stine was born March 16, 1931 in Palo Alto, CA and passed away on May 21, 2022 in Modesto, CA. Phillip moved with his family to Waterford, CA at the age of 5 years old. He grew up in Waterford where he attended Waterford Elementary School and went to Oakdale High School, He obtained his Associate Degree at Modesto Junior College and continued his education at UC Davis thereafter. Phil enlisted into the Airforce Military Police and was assigned to the atomic bomb security detail.
Phillip married Charlotte Don Carlos of Modesto, CA on Feb. 24, 1951. They shared three children Rodney, Larry and Susan. Charlotte passed away Oct. 20, 1957.
Phillip married Myrna Perry of Waterford, Ca on Sept. 12, 1959. They had their son Mike together in 1963. Phillip and Myrna were married for 61 years until her passing Sept. 17, 2020. They were business partners in Waterford Farm Supply and Waterford Irrigation Supply along with their farming operation.
Phillip was a past member of the Waterford Young Farmers, Lions Club, Farm Bureau, Chamber of Commerce and City Council. Phillip served as Mayor of Waterford for 8 years, Phillip has served as a member of Community Bible Church for many years. Phil loved his Bible Study Group members as well as the church’s congregation. Phillip and Myrna have donated their time and money to many worthy causes throughout their lives. This has brought them so much joy in their lives.
Phillip was an avid aircraft pilot who loved flying his Bellanca airplanes every chance that he got. In later years, Phillip and Myrna traveled over 40,000 miles camping in their motorhome with family and friends. For many years you could catch Phillip and Myrna on the ski slopes making memories with their ski group. There were also several cruises seeing the world together.
Phillip garnered national attention with his water witching skills being published in the New York Times and other national news publications. Phillip was an irrigation pioneer for California’s Central Valley orchards and vineyards.
He helped thousands of farmers to attain their agricultural dreams through efficient irrigation throughout his years of service to the agricultural community.
Phillip is preceded in death by his wife Myrna Stine; parents Raleigh and Gladys Stine; brother Bill Stine and sister Marilyn Stine; son Rodney Stine and daughter Susan Stine.
Phillip is survived by his sons Mike Stine of Waterford, CA and Larry Stine of Modesto, CA; granddaughter Cassandra Baganha of Clovis, Ca; great grandchildren Leah and Franco; Niece Petra Werthen of Vallejo, CA.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at 10 AM at the Community Bible Church, 14143 Yosemite Blvd., Waterford, Ca.
