THIS IS KCRA 3 NEWS AT 4:00. TEO: GOOD MORNING TO YOU. IT IS I’M TEO TORRES. THURSDAY, JANUARY 19. FOR A THIRD DAY, FLOODING WILL KEEP STUDENTS HOME FROM SOME LODI UNIFIED SCHOOLS. OFFICIALS SAY BOTH HOUSTON SCHOOL AND JOE SERNA CHARTER SCHOOL ARE DEALING WITH FLOODING ON CAMPUS. THESE TWO SCHOOLS ARE RIGHT NEXT TO EACH OTHER IN ACAMPO. ONCE THE WATER RECEDES, STAFF WILL CHECK OUT THE DAMAGE, AND COME UP WITH A PLAN TO SAFELY REOPEN THEM. THE CITY AND COUNTY OF SACRAMENTO SAY THEY’RE MAKING STEADY PROGRESS WHEN IT COMES TO CLEANING UP ALL OF THOSE TREES, BUT THERE IS STILL WORK TO BE DONE. THERE ARE MORE THAN 1000 TREES DAMAGED BY THE SERIES OF STORMS THAT STARTED ON NEW YEAR’S EVE. THE CITY HAS HIRED OUTSIDE TREE SERVICE COMPANIES AND ARE PULLING STAFF FROM OTHER DEPARTMENTS TO HELP OUT. THE CITY SAYS IT’S GOING TO BE ANOTHER SEVERAL WEEKS BEFORE THEY ARE ALL CUT DOWN AND REMOVED. THE MODESTO CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND CITY SCHOOLS ARE ENCOURAGING STUDENTS TO FURTHER EXPLORE THEIR DREAM JOB. THEY’RE PARTNERING FOR AN EXPO THAT WILL BRING DOZENS OF EXPERTS FROM DIFFERENT CAREERS. IT’S MEANT TO ENCOURAGE STUDENTS ACROSS STANISLAUS COUNTY TO EXPLORE THEIR NATURAL INTERESTS, AND ALSO LEARN ABOUT CAREER OPPORTUNITIES. THE EVENT IS SPLIT INTO TWO PARTS. THOUSANDS OF EIGHTH-GRADERS WILL TAKE PART IN THE EXPO FROM 9:30 AM TO 3:00 AM IN THE AFTERNOON.
