Town Office
Regarding the new Property Tax Stabilization Program, applications and guidance documents are located at maine.gov/revenue/taxes/tax-relief-credits-programs/property-tax-relief-programs/stabilization-program. The application can also be accessed through the town’s website right at the top of the home page. There are also copies of the application and guidance document at the Town Office. There are explanations on the state website as to who is eligible for the program.
An application needs to be filed each year for this, unlike the homestead tax program. So, this must be your permanent residence. If you have any questions, please call Assessor Amber Poulin at 567-3550.

The annual Pie & Art Festival will be held on Saturday, Aug. 20. The winner of the raffle for the the Sweet Cheeks Bakery gift certificate will be announced that day so, hurry in and get your raffle tickets.
Gospel concert
On Sunday, Aug. 21, at 5 pm, Nashville duo Ernie and Jason Couch will present a concert of gospel and Christian music at Stockton Springs Community Church. Ernie and Jason are known across the United States and Canada for their live music, good humor, and genuine spirit. Many describe the group as refreshingly different, and a lot of fun.
It’s sad to see that the Colonial Theater in Belfast will be closing it doors Sept 19. There will be 10 days of free films from Sept 9 to 18. They will show three films twice a day for 10 days with a few other things thrown in. On their Facebook page, they are taking suggestions for what films you would like to see.
When I first moved to Maine, I visited the theater to see “The Pirates of the Caribbean” and all the theater employees were dressed as pirates. I remember thinking that the Colonial was a really fun place. And just last week, I went to see “Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris” there. It was a wonderful heartwarming movie, which I recommend everyone seeing.
It has been suggested that the theater operate like some of the other theaters do in Maine with a “Friends of” group funding it. The Alamo Theater in Bucksport runs that way with a film being sponsored by a club or individual. When the pandemic hit, all the theaters closed and streaming became the only thing available.
I grew up going to movie theaters and it was such a treat going to the Saturday matinee with my siblings and friends. Hopefully, someone will buy it or a group will sponsor the Colonial Theater and keep it open.
We have gone from beastly hot to cooler temperatures over the last week. Maine really needs more rain but August is always dry. Gardens are in need of constant watering. But there is nothing like eating fresh produce from your garden. Enjoy!
