Top 10 moments of the 2022 calendar year

The 2022 calendar year will undoubtedly be a memorable one for Fresno State fans. As the year comes to a close, BarkBoard.com reflects on the top Bulldog moments over the past 12 months.

Fresno State entered the year with a rush of energy for the football program as Jeff Tedford was hired for a second coaching stint after the 10-win 2021 season. After nine months of anticipation and hype, the Red Wave faced an ultimate disappointment with a 1-4 record, injured star quarterback Jake Haener and safety Evan Williams, and an embarrassing loss to UConn. But the Bulldogs made history in the final three months of the year, becoming the first-ever FBS college football team to go from 1-4 to 10-4. The Bulldogs won nine consecutive games including the Mountain West Championship Game at Boise State and the LA Bowl.

But that’s not all that happened in 2022. The men’s basketball team won 23 games and a secondary postseason tournament, two Olympic sports teams claimed conference championships, the club men’s rugby team at Fresno State had an undefeated season and national championship win over Kansas, DaRon Bland became the football team’s first NFL Draft pick since 2020 and is having a standout rookie season, and much more! Fresno State also made headlines all year long away from campus as Derek Carr and Davante Adams joined forces for the Las Vegas Raiders and New York Yankees star Aaron Judge broke the American League home run record.
